Smart crosswalk cuts near-misses at a high-risk crossing

The problem

A busy crossing near a school had repeated near-misses — drivers weren't seeing pedestrians in low light and glare. Standard signage and paint weren't enough.

What we did

Working with the town, SERNIS ID co-designed a smart-crosswalk system: solar in-road studs synchronised with sensor-triggered LED beacons that activate only when a pedestrian is present — maximising driver attention without desensitising them.
